Good read!

I enjoy a good memoir. It seems there's always something good to learn from other people's life experiences. And while I'm not a huge Tina Fey fan, I enjoyed her as Sarah Palin on SNL and occasionally watch 30 Rock. So after reading a review of the book, and being without anything to read at the moment, I took a chance and bought Bossypants, and I'm glad I did.
It seemed a little uneven starting out, but quickly transitioned into some very interesting pieces about her early jobs, her work with Second City, and then her transition into writing for SNL and her eventual creation of 30 Rock. Interspersed are stories about growing up and dating, her eventual marriage, and her struggles to balance work and family life, as well as some candid advice for other women on how to make it in a male-dominated industry.
Perhaps what I liked most about the book is that even though there is a lot of self-deprecating (and distancing) humor, my sense in the end was that Fey gave us an honest look at who she is: imperfect, stumbling, but always rising again, persevering, and continuing to do what she loves. I would say the book is well worth reading for any fan of Tina Fey, 30 Rock, or SNL, as well as for any woman who struggles to balance the roles of worker, spouse and mom. It was a good read!

Prepare to laugh out loud!

I just finished reading Bossy Pants and I really enjoyed it. This book gives you an insight into Tina Fey’s personal life beginning with her childhood. Every chapter has a new story that will surely make you laugh. She fills the pages with advice and there are plenty of jokes throughout. You can tell Tina put a lot of thought into the content and her humor is definitely present. My favorite parts were of her “awkward” childhood years and learning about how things work at SNL. I hope she writes more books because it was one of my favorite comedies. The only part I did not really care for were the chapters covering 30 Rock. I never really go into that show so I skipped over those parts. I did not care to read the scripts from the show in her book. Other than that, this book was terrific!

Enjoyable read with some good laughs

Tina Fey showcases her humor and intelligence in this book quite well. It is essentially a memoir about her experience growing up and coming to work at SNL, along with with dispensing some advice. I enjoyed reading her perspective and I really enjoyed her humor. In fact I was reading this book on a plane and was shaking from laughter on several occasions, much to the consternation of the person sitting next to me. If a book can make me laugh out loud, I am going to give a thumbs up. Bossypants is best enjoyed by those who share Ms. Fey's dry, sarcastic wit, peppered with intelligence and plainspokenness.
