Stephen Baines MA VetMB PhD CertVR CertSAS DipECVS MRCVS
RCVS and European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery
Stephen qualified from Cambridge University in 1990. He held an internship at North Carolina State University and then spent a year in general practice before taking up a residency in small animal surgery at the University of Liverpool. In 2000 he completed a PhD in canine tumour biology at Cambridge, where he remained as a lecturer. In 2004 he moved to the Royal Veterinary College, becoming a senior lecturer and head of surgery. Stephen moved to his current position at the Willows Veterinary Centre in 2011. Stephen is interested in clinical oncology, wound management and reconstructive surgery, and minimally invasive surgery.

Vicky Lipscomb MA VetMB CertSAS FHEA DipECVS MRCVS
European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery
Vicky graduated from Cambridge University in 1996 and has spent time in both general and referral practice. Vicky completed her specialist surgical training at the Royal Veterinary College in 2001, gaining the European Diploma in Small Animal Surgery in 2002. Vicky returned to the RVC as a lecturer in 2003, becoming a senior lecturer and head of soft tissue surgery in 2011. Vicky is interested in all aspects of soft tissue surgery, enjoys teaching and lecturing on soft tissue surgery topics, and has a particular interest in clinical research of congenital portosystemic shunts.

Tim Hutchinson BVSc CertSAS MRCVS
Tim graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1994 and has worked in private practice ever since. Tim gained his certificate in soft tissue surgery in 2002. Since 1998 Tim has worked at Larkmead Veterinary Group in South Oxfordshire, a member of XLVets - a group of independent practices, with a nationwide footprint, cooperating to provide ‘Excellence in Practice'. Tim currently divides his time between referral surgical work and a managing partner role.

Kids spend too much time inside. They are getting obese and sick with health issues. This book is a wealth of information on how to spend more time outdoors. Unless you live in a state where snow is a "serious" issue in winter - most schools only have to deal with rain. Dress the kids for rain and get outside - even on a rainy day. This book had a ton of ideas on how to do it. At least 8 out of the 12 months of the year are wonderful weather for outdoor explorations for young children. When it is too cold or snowing - bring nature and the outdoors inside the house or classrooms.

Well Written and Understandable; Important for Anyone Involved in Image Processing

This is an informative and well written text. I teach college chemistry and mathematics and I have no computer programming experience. I found the text to be very readable with excellent descriptions and images. The mathematics was clear and understandable. Each chapter has an introduction that brings the reader back to what was previously learned and ties the concepts together.
The text begins with a brief introduction to Python and describes the most popular Python modules that are relevant to image processing. It then explains concepts that are important to image enhancement in both the spatial domain and the frequency domain. This is followed by chapters on morphological operations and image measurement. Finally, the text explores image acquisition through the use of X-rays, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and both light and electron microscopes.
In addition to being a text that is appropriate for a course on image processing, I would advise that any scientist or medical professional who deals with imaging should read this. It will provide you with a better understanding of imaging that will greatly enhance your appreciation of the process and will enable you to achieve results in experimentation more effectively.

It is aimed at those with limited programming skills and image processing knowledge. It is written very clearly, with many code examples that are perfect for bookmarking and reference.
Worth every penny. This book has helped improve my coding and image processing skills like I would never have imagined.

About the Author
Rick Parent is an Associate Professor at Ohio State University, where he teaches computer graphics and computer animation. His research in computer animation focuses on its relation to modeling and animating the human figure, with special emphasis on geometric modeling and implicit surfaces. Rick earned a Ph.D. in computer science from Ohio State University and a Bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Dayton. In 1977, he was awarded "Outstanding Ph.D. Thesis Award" (one of four given nationally) by the NCC. He has served on numerous SIGGRAPH committees, in addition to the Computer Graphics International 2000 Program Committee and the Computer Animation '99 Program Committee and is on the editorial board of the Visual Computer Journal.
