Thomas N. Duening is Director of the Entrepreneurial Programs Office at the Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering, Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. He is also President of INSYTE Business Research Group, an international business consulting and research firm.

In effect a measurable business discipline has evolved complete with acronyms, models and methods. The Essentials of Business Process Outsourcing by Thomas N. Duening and Rick L. Click is a valuable must-read for corporate decision makers considering the transition into an outsourcing business model. In seven chapters the book outlines a comprehensive roadmap of external business operations in the 21st century.

The Essentials of Business Process Outsourcing is especially helpful in acquainting novices with the concept of outsourcing and its origins. Short addressed with complicated vocabulary

I am using this book to teach a topics class in Information Technology. It is very well structured with direct attention to major issues relative to outsourcing from different perspectives: buyer and vendor. Authors, however, continuously use complicated terms in places where it could have been much easier to say the same thing.

This could be a book for managers, senior officials or lawyers who are very well aware of various industry-specific words but not for those are novices in the area. I wonder why the authors choose 'Essentials' in their title.

About the Author
Matthew McKay, PhD, is a professor at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA. He has authored and coauthored numerous books, including The Relaxation and Stress Reduction Workbook, Self-Esteem, Thoughts and Feelings, When Anger Hurts, and ACT on Life Not on Anger. McKay received his PhD in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, and specializes in the cognitive behavioral treatment of anxiety and depression. He lives and works in the greater San Francisco Bay Area.


Peter Rogers, PhD, was the administrative director of Haight Ashbury Psychological Services. He was the coauthor of When Anger Hurts, The Divorce Book, The Anger Control Workbook,and The Community Building Companion.

Judith McKay, RN, OCN, received her degree from California State University, Hayward, and has been an oncology nurse involved in patient education for more than twenty-five years. She helped develop and taught chemotherapy orientation classes at the Alta Bates Summit Comprehensive Cancer Center in Berkeley, CA, where she currently works. McKay is coauthor of When Anger Hurts and contributed to the best-seller Self-Esteem.

Tired of being Angry?

I saw this book on the shelf of a couples counselor's office. I asked to borrow it because the title was intriguing, half way through I realized I needed to own it. Being angry all the time is exhausting.

I decided I needed to change my apporach to life so my children did not follow my path. I no longer feel angry but am often perceived as such by language and mannerisms that are habitual. This book explains why anger is harmful to you and those around you. It explains how anger alienates its victim and perpetuates more anger. It dispels the notion that venting is cathartic. It provides specific examples, phrases and exercises that can be incorporated everyday life to practice. This book provides affirmation of concepts I had come to myself. The concepts and tools provided aide in continuous progress in adopting skills for positive communication which achieves far more than angry/negative means.

Understanding and incorporating the concepts and tools provided within this book provides the reader internal, personal and professional gains almost immediately. "Non-Violent Communication" by the same author is also excellent supplemental reading.

La novela denuncia explicitamente los abusos sufridos por las comunidades campesinas de los Andes Centrales, de mayoria indigena, y su lucha contra la explotacion y la injusticia. Scorza, a formidable Latin American author

Redoble por Rancas is part of the pentalogy of novels written by Scorza, that constitutes along with La Danza Inmovil his immortal legacy to Latin American literature. Rancas, that humble village in the middle of Peru is just a metaphore for the underprivileged all over Latin America. The abuses of the dominant elite, the absurdity of this oppression are challenged against all hope by the indigenous peasants. Behind the inevitable humor is a fierce criticism of the landowners, the big corporations, and the complicity of corrupt local authorities. It is the brutality of the repression that brings the reader to think of the immense tenderness that Scorza uses to paint his characters. However, this book cannot be read alone. You must try to get the other four: El Cantar de Agapito Robles, Garabombo El Invisible (my favorite), El Jinete Insomne, y La Tumba del Relampago.

A great story with rich quechua heritage

I think this book successfully portrays the abuses committed by international corporations in the forgotten Andean region. The cruelty and abuses of the mining company as well as of the government towards the indigenous farmers of Rancas contrasts the witting and funny descriptions of events that may seem small but have a greater significance to the development of the story. The author does a great job in narrating a true story mixed with the magical realism style of Latin American writers. This is the first book I read from this author and I am truly happy I picked this book to read because I have learned that injustice and abuses towards the indigenous people of South America have not stopped since the Spanish first arrived there. This book really transported me into the story and made me more aware of the clash between the Inca and Spanish legacy in south America. It is time that the prejudices and wrong conceptions left by the Spanish are obliterated from south America so that they can all solve their problems together. I love this book. I highly recommend it!!

Jerk-reversal made easy

This book was given to me 4 years ago and I never read it until a few weeks ago. I wish I had read it sooner! I work in retail sales and it has really helped me in understanding how to work with Jerks and to eliminate jerk-isms within myself. Within the covers Dr. Meier covers the spiritual ramifications of jerkism and how your relationship with God (geared more in a Christian sense) can help you destroy selfish behaviour and relationship-crippling activities. Meier not only gives us a beautiful autobiography of his own fight with the jerk within but gives many clinical cases of jerk-ism defeated (from both internal and external sources). I would reccomend this book to EVERYONE as it will do nothing but improve your relationship with your fellow man. This book can also help abuse survivors to truly survive in all ways and help one overcome fears and heal deep emotional scars left by even the most destructive of abuse. This is a must-have for any household.

Great Basic Starter Book

A great book to get one started on the road to recovery from being a perpetual "victim". Lot's of tests and activities to help ascertain if the reader is invloved with "jerks", i.e. users/abusers. Also there are exercises to help one discover their own unhealthy propensities.

The book helped change my life when I found myself in an unhealthy friendship, but was unable to understand how I had gotten myself into such a jam. I bought this book to try to understand why I was always getting "used". It was not until half way through one of the tests in this book that I realized that the person it was describing was my own parent. I had always thought something was wrong with me, but my eyes were finally opened, and my life was changed for the better forever, and now I can see Narcissists from a mile away. It also helped me deal with my own narcissitic tendancies I learned from my parent. I am now a healthier happier person, who is also safer and saner for those I love. The book is priceless, especially for Christians, but is also for anyone who wants to discover spiritual wisdom and growth.

I would also highly recomend another great book, "Boundaries" by Cloud/Townsend. I loved the revelation that God has well defined boundaries and He wants me to have them too!

This is a great read and very helpful

I have read several of Dr. Meier's books and this is one of the best. It is an easy read and very funny in the right doses. I had a real jerk as a father-in-law and a bigger jerk for a husband. I wanted to try and understand why they acted the way they did. This book was very helpful in allowing me to be at ease with their behavior, knowing when I was acting in a co-dependent manner, and to know that their behavior was not going to change. I could recommned any book written by Dr. Meier and Dr. Minirth. They have written several books together. I could also highly recommend Restoring Margin to Overloaded Lives by Richard A. Swenson,M.D. If you buy this one get the workbook to go with it.

A wonderful read! His creativity in historical interpretation is exceptional. This is not the ordinary history stuff taught in our schools and Mr. Sayre has brought Abe Lincoln to the lives of many who can truly appreciate what a great man Lincoln was!!!

A good primer on mobile commerce experiences

This book is a primer on building a mobile commerce experience for designers, developers and product managers. It shows the audience how to meet the challenges in mobile commerce through user experience best practices. It covers major mobile payment frameworks including NFC, cloud and closed loop, and examines the pros and cons of popular payment apps such as Google Wallet, Isis, Square and PayPal. It also explains how to design efficient POS interactions using NFC, QR or geolocations and how to build trust into the mobile payments. Walk-throughs and demos of mobile payment interactions including both successful and unsuccessful scenarios are also provided. Lastly, it discusses about adding value in peripheral services such as reward points, coupons and offers.

Payment flow basics + incorporating other conveniences that can fuel further growth in mobile wallet app usage / adoption

This well written primer goes over some good but basic principles for designing payment flows in mobile wallet apps to make them as secure and seamless as possible for the consumer / shopper. The author provides useful graphics and screen shots of existing consumer-focused mobile wallet apps (such as those from Google, Starbucks, and LevelUp) to illustrate the points he's making regarding "good" and "not-so-good" user interface and payment flow "features", and also discusses the pro's and con's of supporting technologies such as NFC (Near Field Communication), bar- or QR- codes, and geolocation.

The discussion then moves to a prognostication on interesting ways mobile wallet apps can be extended in the future, all involving integration with several other services to provide even more conveniences for and handy information to a consumer / shopper. Overall, a very good and informative read.

JC needs a good editor, but when it comes to change...he nails it!

The writing in the book could benefit from a quality editor, Joseph writes in a style that is conversational. However, once you get to the heart of the message you start genuinely seeing change and it is immediate. Pairing this book with the hypnosis tracks included is incredibly powerful and you need to be ready for it. I'm not kidding when I say that I became physically ill after working on letting go of much of the worry and anger I have carried with me for a good deal of my life. There is no doubt in my mind the sickness I felt was the result of my body so rapidly letting go of toxic energy that it had held onto for years. The illness was gone in about 48 hours, and so was much of the anger and worry! I wish everyone could read this book-it truly changes your life in powerful ways. Thanks Joseph Clough!!!!

A truly inspirational book

After coming across Joseph Clough's hypnosis apps and confidence programme I was immediately drawn to reading his book. I work in the area of coaching and personal development and have read many books on this topic, this has to be up there with the best. Joseph is definitely wise beyond his years. It is beautifully written, the language is straight forward and succinct. You can also listen to free hypnosis tracks and do the simple exercises that are included. I had great breakthroughs while reading Be Your Potential - this book will change your life! Thank you Joseph

One of the best books I have read

I was feeling down and lost when I stumbled upon the apps. I knew after the way they helped me, I would have to have the book. Truly remarkable! I felt life was getting me down when I had a child that died from a chronic illness and two more children diagnosed with other life threatening disorders. I felt like any potential that I did have was gone because I would have to be a lifetime caregiver. But, I was wrong. This book was a lifesaver showing me that we all have enormous potential in what we do. This book was a life saver for me.
