ABOUT THE AUTHORS: Dr. Barry L. Reece, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University Dr. Reece has devoted more than three decades to teaching, researching, consulting, and to the development of training programs in the areas of sales, leadership, human relations, and management. He has conducted over 600 seminars and workshops for public and private sector organizations. He has written extensively in the areas of sales, supervision, communications, and management. Dr. Reece was named "Trainer of the Year" by the Valleys of Virginia Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development and was awarded the "Excellence in Teaching Award" by the College of Human Sciences and Education at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Dr. Reece has contributed to numerous journals and is author or co-author of thirty books including "Business, Human Relations"--"Principles and Practices, Supervision and Leadership in Action, "and "Effective Human Relations"--"Personal and Organizational Applications. "He has served as a consultant to Lowe's Companies, Inc., Wachovia, WLR Foods, Kinney Shoe Corporation, Carilion Health System, and numerous other profit and not-for-profit organizations. Gerald L. Manning, Des Moines Area Community College Mr. Manning served as chair of the Marketing/Management Department for more than 30 years. In addition to his administrative duties, he has served as lead instructor in sales and sales management. A second major strategy involves extensive research and development activities. The major focus of these activities has been factors that contribute to high-performance salespeople. The third major strategy involves completion of training and development programs offered by America's most respected sales training companies. Professors Manning and Reece have completed seminars and workshops offered by Wilson Learning Corporation, Forum Corporation, Franklin Covey, Sedona Training Associates, Association for Humanistic Psychology, and several other organizations.

Barry L. Reece is professor emeritus at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Prior to this, he was on the faculty at the University of Northern Iowa. He received his Ed.D. from the University of Nebraska. Dr. Reece has been actively involved in teaching, research, consulting, and designing training programs throughout his career. He has conducted more than 500 workshops and seminars devoted to leadership, human relations, communications, sales, customer service, and small business operations. He received the Excellence in Teaching Award for classroom teaching at Virginia Tech and the Trainer of the Year Award presented by the Valleys of Virginia Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development. Dr. Reece has contributed to numerous journals and is author or co-author of six college textbooks that have been through a total of 41 editions. A Horrible Book Which Is Important Nonetheless

My first thought about this book was that it was confusing as hell and I wanted to get rid of it as soon as my class over. The distinction between a latin letter to represent a scalar, a greek letter to represent a vector and an italic letter to represent a matrix was just too messed up. But it's grown on me and now I see the value in this book. Whereas all other linear algebra books talk about vector spaces and groups over the fields of real or complex numbers, Finkbeiner discusses other fields as well like the finite integer fields. That fact turned out to be so useful in my later life and it never would have occurred to me had it not been for this book. I heartily recommend it and suggest that you plow through it despite the horrible way it's written. I'm scoring it in the middle because of the way it reads.

Withou fail, Judith McWilliams produces central characters you would be willing to invite over for coffee. she's done it again with Jessie and Max. Billionaire Max hires Jessie to teach him social skills to help him win a socially acceptable wife. With just a hint of pygmalion in reverse Max comes to see that its the person that matters, not the polish. If you like fun, articulate, mature, professional characters dancing the dance of love, this is a read you'll enjoy.

Based on primary-source readings (like Sources of Japanese Tradition)

An interesting presentation of Japanese history and culture from the earliest times to the late Tokugawa Era. It is based on translations of primary sources with short narratives introducing each chapter by the author. The selection of source materials to translate and include is quite good, though the inclusion of some photographs and drawings would have been helpful. There is a map of sorts and an appendix listing Japan's many prefectures that are roughly the size of a county in the US or China.

The cosmetics of this book; beautiful! I am a sucker for linen covers. The content; amazing and beautiful color photos. Context; crazy great.Feels like you are going through some of the personal growth of both Alison and Jamie. Some pictures appear as though you've caught them at a very vulnerable time. If you are into The Kills, this is well worth the money.

This is a huge collection of raw, behind-the-scenes photos of The Kills. It documents their road life over the span of (I believe) 10 years.

The Kills are my girlfriend's favorite band, and she was beside herself when she opened this for her birthday. I recommend it to any fan of The Kills.

I'm using this book as the text resource for an introductory level course in Construction Management at a four-year accredited program in the Southeast. The students are responding favorably to the conversational style of the writing and the level of content in terms of depth. The book works equally well for both my more experienced students and the ones who are just getting their feet wet in the career field. If you're looking for a great overview book on the construction industry this is a definite buy; if however you are looking for great depth on any one particular area of construction management you should probably look elsewhere.

About the Author

Kenneth S. Shultz earned his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Industrial/Organizational psychology from Wayne State University. He is a professor in the psychology department at California State University, San Bernardino and serves as director of their Master of Science Program in I/O Psychology. Professor Shultz teaches undergraduate courses in statistics, tests and measurements, and industrial psychology and graduate courses in correlation and regression statistics, applied psychological measurement, and personnel selection and test validation. Prior to his academic career, he worked for four years for the City of Los Angeles as a personnel research analyst, where he conducted applied psychological measurement projects in job analysis, test validation and other applied areas, and he continues to engage in consulting assignments on applied measurement issues for public and private agencies, giving him solid "real world" experience to apply to this book. He has presented papers and published articles on a variety of applied measurement and test construction issues in addition to his substantive work in the aras of personnel selection, aging workforce issues, and retirement. When not teaching or writing, he enjoys running, watching sports, and generally hanging out with his wife and son.

Jasper has produced a masterful study filled with a myriad of traditional, modern, and postmodern sources. A thoroughly engrossing and lively meditation. As one who has written about the desert as well as lived there, I am happy to report that Jasper always gets it right in this innovative cultural and spiritual discussion.

Putting the Body Back Into Theology

The main axis around which David Jasper's book swings is, as the title should suggest, the "desert." But in line with brilliant thinkers and artists like Brian Rotman, Jackson Pollock, and (in some sense) Quentin Meillassoux, he's putting physicality back into thought - putting the body back into theology. So Jasper's book is not simply 'about' the desert; rather, it attempts to BE a desert experience. In this way, he harkens back to a set of lives and texts with which his book essentially begins, and which are returned to and engaged ceaselessy throughout "The Sacred Desert": the lives of the Desert Fathers and Mothers, as retold in the "Historia Monachorum," "The Lausiac History," "The Life of St. Antony," and (briefly) through the monastic communities established in accordance with the lifestyles and principles of these desert ascetics.

Jasper isn't trying necessarily to make a novel point or invent a new way of going about theology, he's simply retrieving what he considers the liturgical, apocalyptic, embodied, and immanent theology of the likes of St. Antony, Meister Eckhart, San Juan de la Cruz, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Hegel, Blake, Thomas Altizer, and others. And for that reason, "The Sacred Desert" is fundamentally a compilation of texts - of grains of sand - that lead us (and Jasper) to the sun, the "still, small wind," the heat, the oases, the solitude and flatness of the desert. Because for Jasper, and for (the oft-quoted) Jewish-Egyptian poet Edmond Jabes, true mystical, spirtual experience is to be found in the wilderness that is paradoxically a "nothing," yet full of a "being" whose Otherness decenters us from any place or space, except that space and place that make room for the Word beyond language but found in the Book... that is: the desert.

This may sound like a strange and incoherent mess, loopy and trite, perhaps, but that's becuase (a) I don't do Jasper and his book justice, and (b) there is certainly a sense of grasping in "The Sacred Desert," but a grasping that arises from a disinterest in colonizing thought and conquering new modes of thinking; instead seeking the inclusion of readers in a genuine experience of scholarship, theology, and (in Blanchot's phrase) the Space of Jasper's Literature. Even now parts of his book are forcing me to stop and intimately consider what he's written or shown. It's not all come together for me yet. But, if you're at all interested in where theology could be headed after the postmodern, here's a taste, and maybe more.

It does move along at a pretty good speed so even more proficient players will probably find useful material in the Beginning book if they are new to the blues. I haven't really gotten into the Intermediate book but it looks promising. If you are just starting out you will probably easily spend a year and quite possibly several to master all the material presented.

This book will teach you how to get that elusive "blues sound" and get you beyond the basic 12 bar patterns so that you can start to sound like you know what you are doing.

Excellent book! I implore anyone who gets this to purchase the accompanying CD. Just listening to the countless examples provided inspires anyone whose interest extends to R n B, Soul, Gospel, as well as Blues. If Motown and Stax records are your thing, then look no further.

Great book. Great price.

Great set of books. I had planned on buying the first in this series so when I saw the complete set for one low price I bought it immediately. I love the way the lesson progress and build off of each previous lesson. Very challenging but comprehensive in its method. Full of great tips and interesting blues piano history. CD examples are are great. I am very, very satisfied with this book.
